Maria Characterization-Cameron
6
years of age. Maria Medoza is the daughter of a powerful Senator. El’
Patron appreciates contacts that allow him great power. He frequently
invites Her father and her to the estate to ensure a strong relationship
with a powerful Senator. Maria is always excited an energetic, like
many children of her age group. When she first encountered Matt, she
trundled right up to the window in Matt and Celia’s humble abode from
which Matt gawked through and exclaimed “Hey boy” “What’s your name? Do
you want to play? As the other children stood back in awe and watched a
small boy wander about a small house, she was friendly and didn’t hold
back. She isn’t shy, and like many in her age demographic, will speak
her mind. In fact, Maria was the most active in freeing Matt from his
small home in the poppy field. She was curious to see what this new boy
would be like, would she make a new friend? Once Matt was settled in his
new room in the dark, dank basement of the “Big House”, Maria snuck
into his room at dusk and spent the night mesmerized by Matt’s stories
and knowledge only to be caught in the morning by the house maids. Maria
is willing to take risks for others who she loves just to be
entertained or to make that specific person feel welcome or calm. Maria
is the only child of the “Big House” who doesn’t see Matt as an animal,
she sees him as another friend. This could be that she doesn’t understand
what Matt is or simply doesn’t care. Personally, from what I’ve
interpreted so far I know that for Maria, it doesn’t matter to her
whether he is a clone or not. As the story develops I expect Maria to
take a leadership role in protecting Matt, a friend from danger or
suffering. This is due to Maria’s caring nature and affection that she
displayed for Matt when they first met and when he was alone in the
basement. Thus far in the novel, Maria is somewhat of a round character
type. She has a developing personality and is starting to stand out as
the one of the few characters who appreciate Matt as a human being.
Maria truly is a lot more than a typical girl of 6 and has a deep
personality as a caring, loving girl who has the curiosity of a child
and a heart larger then the poppy fields she frolics in.
